More Than Two Tones

Last night I attended the launch of the new Coventry music exhibition 'More Than Two Tones' at The Herbert Art Gallery and Museum, Coventry.

The exhibition itself opens to the public on the 3rd October, but this was a chance to obtain an exclusive sneak preview a day early.

The evening began with complimentary glasses of wine, welcome speeches from the Herbert and Coventry music historian Pete Chambers, moving on to a tour around the exhibition itself (which is worth going to see) and then some live Coventry music from the ever professional Kristy Gallacher and 80's chart topping band 'The Primitives'.

It was a great night and The Primitives didn't disappoint - I didn't know all their songs and unsurprisingly their 1988 track 'Crash' went down very well.

I didn't take too many as i was forced to use flash but a handful of photos of Kristy and The Primitives live sets can be see here.

Stylusboy EP Launch

On the 19th September I popped down to Esquires Coffee House at the Transport Museum in Coventry to see the launch of Stylusboys EP 'Fingerprint'.

The evening kicked off with support from Lewis Garland and Atlum Schema whos sets were fantastic. I particularly enjoyed Atlum Schema who samples his instruments and vocals forming 'layers of loops' as he plays - he builds up wonderful melodies, rhythms and harmonies as he gets further into each song often stopping the loops to return to just one vocal and his guitar or keyboard - cracking stuff.

I've not seen Lewis Garland too many times but i'm going to try and get down to a few more of his gigs - he's a very talented chap and i enjoyed his intimate set - walking unplugged through the audience to encourage the audience to sings some parts as he performed one particular song - excellent stuff.

Stylusboy (accompanied by his excellent band) played a blinding set to a very appreciative and attentive audience who quietly consumed coffee and alcoholic beverages. Stylusboys delicate and warm vocals mixed wonderfully with some very nice precision backing from the female backing vocalist. The songs are well crafted and i recommend you get a copy of the EP. It was an excellent evenings entertainment, the place was packed and I wish the best of luck to Stylusboy with the EP.

Photos form the evening can be seen here.
